The Attractive Mix of Silver Spring

Silver Spring is one of the D.C. area’s largest suburban cities. The diverseness of the city attracts an eclectic array of residents, from young professionals, to families, to retirees. Accordingly, there are homes of all sizes, from townhouses and row homes to single-family colonials and bungalows, some cozy, others quite spacious. In the past decade or two, several new condo developments offering luxury and amenities have also popped up.

Many are attracted to Silver Spring’s mix of both bustling downtown areas and quieter residential neighborhoods.

For example, this move-in ready 2 bedroom, 1 bath townhome-style condo overlooks Sligo Creek Park and sits in a private wooded setting. It's less than 2 miles from downtown Silver Spring and the Metro and the new owners will enjoy access to an outdoor pool and easy commuting (a Ride-On bus picks up just outside the neighborhood).

The home itself includes hardwood flooring, a separate dining area, large living room and a deck overlooking the woods. Learn more about 8507 Bradford Road Unit 5-2 here.

Silver Spring has a vibrant arts scene, being home to the AFI Theater, the Roundhouse and the Fillmore, among other spots. As far as shopping options, many appreciate the large number of cozy, independent stores walking distance from many of the residential streets, as well as the number of public parking garages to supplement street parking.

Despite its size, the city is known for having a tight-knit, community feel to it. Adding to this are a number of popular gathering spots, such as the public square, and countless walking trails, green areas and public parks.

Adding to Silver Spring’s appeal is its closeness to the District, for those who work there. Silver Spring has a stop on Metro’s Red Line, several Capital Bikeshare kiosks throughout downtown, and close proximity to the Beltway and I-270 for those who prefer to drive. When shopping or dining downtown, though, walking is a popular choice.

Silver Spring is part of the renowned Montgomery County School District, and several schools are located within the city. Montgomery Blair High School, with its highly competitive math and science magnet program, is one of the top schools in the D.C. area. Silver Spring International and Takoma Park middle schools, Shepherd Elementary and a half dozen private schools are also located within the city.

Montgomery Community College also has a campus near downtown, with a health sciences facility, a performing arts center with a 500-seat theater and a dance studio.
